Chateau Angelus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, 2020
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Angélus is one of the top estates in Saint-Émilion—Premier Grand Cru Classé A until 2022, and still a benchmark for the Right Bank’s more structured, Cabernet Franc–driven style. The 2020 vintage wraps up a stellar trilogy (2018–2020) with lower yields, great ripeness, and real aging potential.
The blend is around 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, with the Franc playing a big role in the wine’s backbone and aromatic profile—think graphite, dark florals, and spice. Fermentation is done in a mix of oak and concrete, and the wine sees a generous but balanced oak regime in aging.
2020 Angélus is powerful, dense, and built to age, but it’s also surprisingly polished and fresh for such a ripe year. It’s less about opulence, more about precision—especially compared to some earlier, more extracted vintages.
Whether you’re cellaring it or opening it young with a long decant, this is one of the Right Bank’s most consistent and recognizable wines—and a strong showing from one of the most talked-about Bordeaux vintages of the last decade.
