Domaine des Comtes Lafon farms its Meursault 1er Cru Porusots biodynamically, from deep clay soils on an east-facing slope. Acquired in 2010, the site yields dense, structured wines with notable aging potential.

The 2020 was fermented with native yeasts and aged nearly two years on lees in about 25% new oak. It’s rich yet precise, with layered citrus and orchard fruit, chalky minerality, and firm structure.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"Here the nose is still showing quite a bit of post-malolactic leesy character that renders it tough to read at present though there is no apparent reason why it wouldn't clean up appropriately. The palate however is entirely clean with superb intensity to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the markedly firm acid spine shaping the more compact and slightly more powerful finale. Excellent potential here." -Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

"The 2020 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with lemon verbena, orange pith, honeysuckle and pressed yellow flowers. Vibrant and concentrated. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more extract here perhaps, spicy with touches of stem ginger towards the persistent finish. Superb. This vies with the Meursault-Charmes as "best in (Lafon's) show"." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"A particular success this year is the 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots, a lovely wine that wafts from the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, white flowers, blanched almonds and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, tangy and chiseled, it's vibrant, concentrated and incisive, concluding with a chalky finish. Assessed at this early juncture, it's as good a Porusots as I can remember tasting chez Lafon." -William Kelley

"Lovely purity of fruit, with ripe apple, apricot and quince aromas, then hints of white flowers, citrus peel and spice. The texture is rich, waxy, and long; a superb wine. Lafon has nearly a hectare in Porusots, acquired from René Manuel in a métayage agreement in 2010. In 2020 the grapes were picked at 13.5% potential alcohol and lightly crushed prior to being run into cask (25% new) for fermentation and ageing." -Charles Curtis, MW

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
