Pierre Gimonnet et Fils’ Champagne Cuis 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut NV is a pristine and vibrant expression of Chardonnay from the premier cru vineyards of Cuis in the Côte des Blancs. This non-vintage cuvée delivers a delicate and nuanced profile, beginning with aromas of lemon zest, green apple, and white peach, accented by floral hints of acacia and subtle notes of toasted almond and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is precise and energetic, offering flavors of citrus, crisp pear, and a touch of brioche, supported by a fine mousse and lively acidity. The finish is long, refreshing, and mineral-driven, showcasing the elegance of its terroir.

The Gimonnet family’s commitment to meticulous viticulture and craftsmanship is evident in every detail of this wine. Grapes are hand-harvested from sustainably farmed vineyards, with many vines averaging over 40 years of age. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity, and the wine benefits from extended lees aging, which adds texture and complexity. A balanced dosage enhances the wine’s brightness and harmony without overshadowing its natural vibrancy.

Cuis 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs is a versatile Champagne, pairing beautifully with seafood dishes such as oysters, seared scallops, or sashimi, as well as light poultry or creamy cheeses. Its crisp and elegant profile also makes it an ideal aperitif for any occasion. This cuvée exemplifies the refinement and precision that Pierre Gimonnet et Fils brings to every bottle, making it a timeless choice for lovers of pure Chardonnay Champagne.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 90
"I tasted two different versions of Gimonnet's signature NV Cuis 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs earlier this year; both were excellent as usual. The most recent disgorgement from January 2015 is based on the 2011 vintage (+ 22% Réserve wines), and is very pure, lovely, fresh and delicate on the typically intense, chalky/mineral, well balanced and elegant palate. The lighthearted yet quite complex wine was disgorged with a dosage of 6.5 grams per liter. The forerunner, based on 2008 and disgorged in October 2014, was even finer and provided with a very god length." -Robert Parker

"100% Chardonnay. Didier Gimonnet’s aspiration for his entry NV is a cuvée with attack on the front, roundness in the middle and crispness on the end. The singular expression of his home village of Cuis, it is softened with reserves of the previous year’s blend, aged in magnums. The result is the quintessential aperitif, and one of the most pristine Champagnes for its price. The north-facing elegance of this village lets fine salt-chalk minerality sing in harmony with crystalline acidity."

Wine Spectator

WS 91
"Firm and well-knit, this lacy version offers a subtle mix of Dijon pear, smoke, fleur de sel, fresh ginger and slivered almond notes."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 90
"The wine is soft and rounded although unmistakably from Chardonnay in the chalky Côte des Blancs. Crisp apples have a light creaminess as well as lively acidity. Coming from Premier Cru vineyards, it shows a strongly mineral character that is filled out by the ripe fruitiness."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
