Luca Roagna and his family have been making some of the greatest wines in Piemonte for generations, and the quality just keeps rising. Anyone will be able to respect and admire the work of Luca Roagna: no step taken in the vineyard or the winery is without complete follow-through of thought.

Standing in the middle of one of their vineyards, you almost forget it's a place to grow grapes. Grass, insects and wildlife flourish throughout the vines, which are never subjected to chemical sprays, mowing or tilling. The bio-sphere is diverse and vigorous, the soils healthy: the result is impeccably grown grapes ready to become impeccably made wine.

"The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Barolo is laced with sweet dried cherry, incense, tobacco, cedar and mint. Silky, soft and quite open, the 2017 is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next 10-15 years. It is one of the most open-knit and accessible of the Roagna 2017s, helped by an extra kick of mid-palate sweetness most of the Barbarescos don't have, at least not at this stage."

Sourced from a tiny .17 hectare parcel in the Terlo cru. A parcel owned by the family of Luca's girlfriend, Romina.
SOIL
Calcareous Marl.
VITICULTURE
The vines for this wine are between 25 and 50 years of age.
VINIFICATION
Fermented in a wooden tine with maceration for 60 days.
AGING
Aged for five years in barrel.
