"Made for the first time the 2018 Enkircher Ellergrub Réserve was sourced from a single, wide-open terrace on the bottom of the cru that normally would have guaranteed perfect botrytis but not so in 2018, when there was no botrytis at all. So, originally planned to become an Auslese but then picked a week later than the regular grand cru "GE," the wine ended as Réserve that aged for 22 to 23 months in small oak barrels before bottling in August this year. The Reserve is deep, pure and elegant on the intense, perfectly ripe and concentrated nose, which is gorgeous in its mix of very fine slate and ripe mirabelle aromas. Round, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a dense, round and juicy yet crystalline, fine and salty Ellergrub that develops enormous intensity and complex length with perfectly interwoven phenols (24 hours of maceration). This is an impressive dry Riesling with 13% alcohol that doesn't weigh heavy but gives a full-bodied, very intense and sustainable wine of great class.
