The Pérard family has been in Champagne since 1639. After generations of selling their grapes to big-house Champagne producers, in 2012 Jean-Yves decided to sold to make estate wine from their five hectares of holdings. Most of these are 40- to 60-year-old vines in the chalky Cernay-les-Reims, one of the few Chardonnay-dominant areas in Montagne de Reims. Jean-Yves also owns Pinot Noir and Meunier vines in the Vallée de la Marne in the villages of Festigny, Mareuil-le-Port and Leuvrigny. These sites have never seen herbicides or pesticides.

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

A bit of a stand out as this is 100% Chardonnay from 40-60 year-old vines in Cernay-les-Reims in the Montagne de Reims. Chardonnay works well here as the soil is very chalky with a layer of clay on top. The vines have south, southwest exposure. Aged 20% in large neutral foudres and the balance in stainless steel. A blend of 40% 2019 vintage and 60% 2017. Bottled with less than 2g/L dosage.

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
