{"title":"Maryline \u0026 Christophe Billon","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis is Côte-Rôtie from a grower who learned the trade inside the appellation's biggest house: Christophe Billon spent years working at Guigal while building up his own family domaine in Ampuis, and his family's oldest vines, in the Côte Rozier, were planted by his grandfather in 1942.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChristophe established the domaine in 1991 and gave himself to it full-time in 2007. The domaine carries his and his wife Maryline's names, and his son Corentin has worked alongside him since finishing his wine studies in 2015. Their holding is small and spread across the steep terraces in and around Ampuis, mostly on the Côte Brune side, with its dark, iron-veined schist (Côte Rozier, La Brocarde, La Viallière), plus parcels on the lighter granite of the Côte Blonde. Les Elotins blends both; there's also a little Condrieu.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe vines are farmed sustainably and largely by hand, as these slopes demand. Grapes are hand-picked and destemmed in whole or part depending on the cuvée, fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak, with plenty of new wood for the single-parcel wines.
