The Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines Extra Brut LC18 is an extraordinary Blanc de Noirs made entirely from 100% Pinot Meunier. Sourced from the 2.2-hectare single vineyard of Les Béguines in Gueux, west of Reims, the vines are deeply rooted in calcareous sand and clay soils, imparting a unique minerality and character. Jérôme Prévost, known for his meticulous craftsmanship and terroir-driven philosophy, vinifies this Champagne in oak barrels using spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Bottled without fining or filtration and finished with minimal dosage, this cuvée embodies the precision and intensity of its exceptional terroir.

On the nose, this Champagne offers a complex bouquet of yellow orchard fruits, pear, and white flowers, accented by notes of walnuts, buttery pastry, and hints of peach and apricot. On the palate, it is full-bodied and voluptuous, with a broad, textured attack that transitions into an ample, layered core. The finish is sapid and persistent, showcasing the wine’s depth, energy, and mineral backbone.

This Champagne pairs beautifully with butter-poached lobster, roasted poultry, or creamy mushroom risottos, where its richness and complexity can shine. While already approachable for its vibrant fruit and layered texture, the Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines LC18 will reward 7–10 years of cellaring, developing even greater nuance and refinement. It is a profound expression of Pinot Meunier and a testament to Jérôme Prévost’s mastery of single-vineyard Champagne.

Of the cult-producers making Champagnes in a more Burgundian model - single parcel, single vintage - Jérôme Prévost has to be one of the most challenging to get your hands on. All of Prévost wines are fermented in neutral oak barrels, and then bottled the following summer without fining, filtration, or cold-stabilization, and only a minimal amount of sulfur. Prévost prefers post-disgorgement aging and these wines spend less than three years in on the lees before release – which is why they cannot be officially vintage labeled. Though they are conveniently coded with the year of harvest (LC13 is harvest 2013 for example). There are fewer than 10,000 bottles a year in total production. These are some of the best Champagne additions you can bring to your cellar. With proper mid-term aging they will weave together harmoniously, becoming more structured and generous with each passing year. How long? You will be rewarded with 5-10 years of patience – but, of course, it's a joy to check in with a bottle here and there along the way.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
