Raimbault-Pineau

Few families have been in Sancerre longer than the Raimbaults. The family tree at Raimbault-Pineau starts with Denis Raimbault, born in 1610, and runs through thirteen generations of growers in the Sancerrois. This is classic, honest Sancerre from people who have been at it for four centuries.

The domaine is in Sury-en-Vaux, a village about five kilometers from Sancerre. The modern estate took shape after Lucien Raimbault bought vineyards there in 1946, and today Sonia Raimbault heads it, with her children working alongside her. They farm some 40 separate parcels around the village, on all three of Sancerre's classic soils: stony caillottes, which give fine, fruity wines to drink young; terres blanches, clay and limestone full of fossil shells, for depth and intensity; and flinty silex, for smoky wines that need time. Farming is traditional and "reasoned," and the family also makes Pouilly-Fumé, Coteaux du Giennois and Menetou-Salon.

The house Sancerre blends lots from across those parcels, which is exactly the point: a portrait of the village rather than of a single site. There is Pinot Noir too, and a Sancerre cuvée called Lucien. Expect crisp, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc with a chalky, mineral finish.

Classic Sancerre from a family that has farmed Sury-en-Vaux for centuries — thirteen generations, tracing back to a vigneron born in 1610. Domaine Raimbault-Pineau works some 40 plots scattered around the village just north of Sancerre town, drawing on all three of the appellation's signature soils — caillottes (rocky limestone), terres blanches (clay-limestone with marine fossils), and silex (flint). The 2025 is the house Sancerre Blanc, pressed gently, cool-fermented in stainless to preserve fruit and snap, and bottled without distraction. 2025 was an early, dry year in the Centre-Loire — budbreak ten days ahead of the norm, the driest May and June in fifteen years, then well-timed rain in late August — and it delivered whites of real purity and cut, with acidity that held firm through the heat. A benchmark village white at home with everything from oysters to Wednesday-night roast chicken.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0125/1518/0601/files/Domaine-Raimbault-Pineau-Sancerre-Blanc-2025-White-Wine-Flatiron-Wines-Spirits-New-York.jpg?v=1784991055
