Rose & Arrow

Rose & Arrow came to be in 2016 when Mark Tarlov and Louis-Michel Liger-Belair (of the iconic Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair) set out on a mission to find the true, unfiltered essence of Oregon Pinot Noir. They didn't just want to make great Willamette Valley Pinot; they wanted to find the secrets behind the region's most profound bottles.

They spent a decade investigating the fundamental landscape of Oregon, eventually partnering with the legendary terroir whisperer, Pedro Parra. Together, they realized that the answer lay where the vine meets tiny, ancient threads of volcanic rock. Of course, there was a catch. These threads are elusive, hidden deep beneath layers of earth left behind by the prehistoric Missoula Floods. Across 152 acres of prime land, they discovered that only 5.2 acres held this rare, volcanic soul. They toiled away with a mix of soil-scanning technology, electroconductivity mapping, and, as Pedro Parra puts it, a willingness to dig whenever you find something delicious.

After two years of literal exploration in the dirt, they identified specific rock-ribbons in the soil. While most wines in the region come from weathered or decomposed basalt, these specific volcanic seams produce something entirely different: wines with unusually vivid fruit that elegantly wrap around a highly detailed mineral bolt. It is a marriage of data and artistry, science and inspiration.

Tarlov and Liger-Belair left the project in the very capable hands of Pedro and his winemaker, Felipe Ramirez. Once these tiny hillside pleats are located, it is up to Felipe to free the spirit of the rock, if you will. He uses a unique, oxygen-rich infusion method that coaxes a kaleidoscope of wild, native yeasts into action before traditional fermentation even begins. This idiosyncratic technique preserves the high-toned floral aromas and the primal personality of the hillside without censoring the wine’s natural instincts.

Rose & Arrow's micro-production wines are nothing short of electric. They possess a violet exuberance and a velvet texture, with nuanced details that hit the palate in second and third waves of flavor. It is a remarkably balanced experience with a rich, rounded texture defined by red fruit and deep mineral tones that linger long after the final sip. These wines aren't just made; they are unearthed.
