A rare Rose produced from Baga, Luis Pato was at first not happy with the result and stashed the wine away. They found it 15 years later and couldn't believe what a marvelous wine it had become. Like a Portuguese version of Lopez's Rosado.

Luis Pato, Vinha Rose, 2005

Made in an extremely oxidized style reminiscent of many aged Spanish rosados, although this wine hails from Portugal. Nose has hints of aged Viura and aged Riesling (read: diesel like), and even Sherry, despite being made entirely from the Baga varietal. Little to no fruit whatsoever. High acid and even a bit astringent, with some residual bitterness on the finish. Interesting wine to be sure, but most definitely not of the same caliber as Lopez de Heredia's cult rosado, to which it has been compared in marketing the product.

Strangest Wine I Have Ever Had

Very well made. An interesting wine to say the least. But be prepared if you have never had this style of rose. Complex, slight oxidized character, but not off putting. Herbs, strawberries are all in there. Consumed over three days and it was better each day. I am glad that I tried it.
