"The 2021 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is a wild, exotic wine endowed with freakishly sumptuous fruit, the result of a brutal frost that wiped out 50% of the crop. Intense red-toned fruit, pomegranate, blood orange and sweet floral notes build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. The 2021 is a stylistic outlier here, in all the best ways. Vineyard
Sourced from the estate 4.75 hectare vineyard of Berri.
Orientation
South-southwest exposure at 350-430 meters in elevation.
Soil
The soil is from the Messinian period (emerging between 5 and 7 million years ago) and is therefore younger than the one found in the Eastern part of La Morra. The soil composition is due to its proximity to the river, with pebbles, and limestone
Viticulture
Hand-harvested from vines planted in 1955, 1961, and 1999.
Vinification
Fermented in concrete and lasts about 12-14 days followed by a 12-15 day maceration. Total skin-juice contact is about four weeks. Then malolactic takes place in oak.
Aging
The wine ages for around 20 months in 52 HL and 25Hl oak Garbellotto barrels. After aging, the wine rests for some months in concrete before being bottled in July or August of the year before the release.
