This is a charming and expressive red wine from one of the most respected producers in Tuscany. The wine is made from mostly Sangiovese, with small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, grown organically on limestone-rich soils. The wine is aged for one year in large Slavonian oak barrels. Terrific freshness and vibrancy of fruit.

You probably already know about Montevertine. It has been one Tuscany's brightest stars for decades, on the forefront of every movement that has made the region what it is today. They stepped out of the consorzio because of their belief in Sangiovese, helping to create the Super-Tuscan movement. They have always sought to express their distinct Radda terroir, laying the foundation for today's growing interest in Chianti's varied crus (and especially in Radda!).

"The 2020 Pian del Ciampolo is racy, supple and textured, with lovely up front and plenty of charm. In this vintage, the Pian del Ciampolo is quite generous and forward. It's a wine of substance that captures the intensity of the year. As a reminder, Pian del Ciampolo is essentially equal parts press wine Montevertine and Pergole Torte and fruit that does not make it into the top two wines. It's a stellar Pian del Ciampolo." -Vinous

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

composed of Sangiovese with tiny amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino blended in, this is the basic red wine of the estate. It sees 18 months of aging in large barrel. The 1.5 hectare vineyard parcel was re-planted in 2003; the vineyards face east – northeast which produces a long growing season resulting in the complete maturation of the grapes and exceptional balance to this wine which reflects the classic Montevertine style marked by elegance and complexity.
