The Burguets are also famously among the very last families in Gevrey to pick, which is the whole philosophy in one detail: wait for the fruit to be genuinely ripe, then get out of its way. Alain was born to a piece-work vineyard laborer, left school at 14, bought his first 2.10 hectares in 1974 and bottled his own wine from day one; sons Jean-Luc and Eric came in alongside him in 1997 and 1999.
