Alapiani, Tavkveri, 2016

Available for Same Day Delivery (or Pickup) in Manhattan.
Tavkveri is the grape, which is a lady vine and can't be planted alone or it won't pollinate (most wine grapes are asexual). They are 35-40 years old and make some seriously tasty wine. Bright blueberry, bramble, cranberry sauce, spices, cocoa nibs, pastry crust, and vanilla cake. There is no oak treatment - the grape tastes like cake.

Alapiani Marani is a labor of love of three old army buddies. One of them left Georgia for London, made it big and came home to retire. His buddies stayed behind, barely surviving the post communist era. But they had practiced and preserved their Georgian winemaking traditions. So they teamed up, creating an official winery they could use to share those traditions with the world. They are as natural as their Georgian brethren. But nobody during the Communist era was obsessing about terroir and soil types. Today, Alapiani Marani are. Nobody had the luxury of being fastidious about every step from the farming through clean winemaking. They do. These wines combine ancient history, passion and skill, taking the tradition to incredible heights. Quintessentially Georgian, delicious and exciting, yet refined, precise.
