Meet Tim Smith, the rock 'n' roll winemaker behind some of the Barossa Valley's most iconic bottles. Please join us on Tuesday, September 15 at 6pm on the mezzanine for a Bonza Masterclass with the highly awarded Aussie winemaker.

Tim makes wines using the traditional grape varieties of the Barossa region: Mourvedre (locally called Mataro), Grenache, and Shiraz. He also gets exceptional grapes (Shiraz, Riesling, and Viognier) from special plots in the Eden Valley.

In the late 1980s, Tim started working for Yalumba, where he stayed for about 15 years. He earned a degree in wine science to become a winemaker and took part in an exchange program between the Barossa Valley and the Rhône Valley. He also worked as a winemaker at St Hallett, Tatachilla, and Chateau Tanunda. Additionally, he participated in many harvests in the Northern Hemisphere, notably in Portugal's Alentejo region (with Cortes de Cima and Azamor) and in France (with Chapoutier and Gabriel Meffre).

After working alongside dynamic winemakers like Thierry Boudinaud and Albéric Mazoyer in the Rhône Valley, he decided to create his own company to make the wines he truly loves to drink. He returned to Australia and founded Tim Smith Wines, producing his first vintage in 2002. He settled in the God’s-Own-Barossa because it offers the perfect combination of soil structures, altitudes, and grape varieties, making it an amazing playground for a winemaker.

All Tim Smith wines are made from small, selected grape plots and are produced in limited quantities. If a wine does not carry the Tim Smith "Thumbprint," it means it does not meet his high-quality standards.

Please join us on Tuesday, September 15 at 6pm on the mezzanine for a great opportunity to meet this passionate top block winemaker in person.

Seating is limited.
