The Coteaux Vitryats sits between the Marne and the Aube, about an hour's drive from Reims, Epernay and Troyes. It covers roughly 450 hectares, a sliver of Champagne's 34,300. Les Renardes is a southeast-facing parcel of Chardonnay planted in 2000 in neighboring Couvrot, where the chalk is crumbly and almost gravelly. If you've had Chevalier's Tecta Silva, this is the same vineyard, now sold under its own name. Antoine's grandfather Guy bought land and planted vines in Vitry-en-Perthois in 1925, and Antoine is the first in the family to bottle his own wine. He farms 2.5 organic hectares.
