Bernard Moreau
Domaine Bernard Moreau has always been a great producer: superb vineyards, great farming, and careful work in the cellar. It is difficult and painstaking work to improve something that is already near its best. Throughout their long tenure Alex and Benoît Moreau have continued to make tiny improvements year after year, vintage after vintage. Their dedication has paid off and they have reached the top tier of white Burgundy producers. I think of them as the Roulot of Chassagne in terms of leanness, minerality, and letting terroir speak.Alex and Benoît have been in total control of the domaine since 1999, after completing formal studies and long apprenticeships abroad. Alex is the winemaker, Benoît concentrates on the farming, and they both work on the now extended élevage. These two have reinvigorated their two hundred-year-old family property, the wines are better than they ever have been.
