Les Prielles is a single one-hectare parcel on the flat land at the northeastern edge of Fixin, where vines planted in 1980 on deep limestone and marl get declassified into Amelie Berthaut's humblest red. She treats it like the rest of the range: ambient yeasts, up to half whole clusters, fermentation in concrete with a gentle regime of pump-overs, then a year in used barrels with no new oak anywhere near it. Berthaut came home in 2013 and built the domaine by uniting her father's Berthaut vines with part of her mother's Gerbet holdings, and Fixin has been her cause ever since — she'd like the world to take the appellation seriously again.
