Amelie Berthaut was born into vineyard-owning families on both sides, her father's Berthaut holdings in Fixin and her mother's Gerbet parcels down in Vosne-Romanee, and she has folded them into a single domaine that she farms and vinifies herself, ploughing some of the smaller plots by horse. Combe du Dessus sits in the cooler upper reaches of Gevrey above the village, and the vines there date back to her grandfather's day; roughly 10% of the fruit goes in whole cluster and the wine sees about 20% new oak. 2022 looked like it might be another baking, drought-stressed year until well-timed rain rescued the season, and the wines came in ripe but restrained, under 13% natural alcohol.
