The insurance companies and foreign interests are just starting to move in. But for now, Burgundy remains very much a family affair.

Take Amélie Berthaut. She was born to Burgundy vine-owners on both her mother’s and her father’s side. She has now put it all together into the 13 hectare Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet.

Even with these increased holdings, she's still focused on the same thing as everyone else in Burgundy since time immemorial: the weather, and what it will do to her vines.

What Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

From a 1.30 hectare parcel with vines more than 60 years old and the oldest planted in 1930. Les Clos has a very complex geologically and Berthaut's vines grow into at least four different types of bedrock, Premeaux limestone, marly ostrea acuminata, crinoidial limestone, and alluvial stones from the Combe Laveau (Wasserman and Co.) Fully destemmed. Aged for 12 months in barrel (approximately 20% new).
