Vincent Bitouzet has been in partnership with famed importer Neil Rosenthal for over 30 years, bringing classic, old-school Burgundy to wine lovers in the U.S. His great-great-grandfather established the domaine, and when Vincent married Anne Prieur she brought along her own family history of winemaking along with significant vineyard holdings. Today the domaine is about 12 hectares in Volnay and Meursault.

All of the Bitouzet-Prieur vineyards are farmed organically. Copper is kept to a minimum and sexual confusion is employed to reduce insect infestations. Winemaking is very traditional, native yeast fermentation and aging in mostly used barrique.

Professional Reviews

BH 91
"A background whiff of reduction can be found on the otherwise fresh and airy red and dark cherry-scented nose. The finer medium-bodied flavors exude evident minerality that carries over to the well-detailed and firm yet seductively refined finish. This isn't quite as rich as the Les Aussy but it's lacier and flashes a bit more minerality as well. Worth checking out."

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The 2005 vintage was the first release of this wine from newly accessed vineyards. “Mitans” is situated towards the center of the appellation and is a classic Volnay with breed and finesse supported by a sturdy backbone; in tribute to our long and close relationship, the Bitouzets have allotted the entire production (three barrels) to us for the US market. The holdings are only 0.13 hectare in size, the vines were planted in 1991 in the “En l’Ormeau” section of “Mitans”.

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
