The result is the opposite of the modern inky, sweet, high-extract Argentine Malbec: fresher, lighter on its feet, built for the table rather than for a scoring sheet. The Vasco Viejo name is a nod to 'El Vasquito', the first wine José Gregorio López Rivas and his brother Rafael made after renting a scrap of land in Maipú — José having left Málaga in 1886 when phylloxera reached Andalusia.
