The reds here are made the old way: whole-cluster fruit, long maceration, aging in big neutral wood, and all thirteen permitted grape varieties in play, which gives the wine its classic warmth and aromatic lift. The 2001 was an excellent Southern Rhone vintage, and this back-vintage bottle now drinks with mellowed, savory maturity.
