Calea is a joint project between the importer Polaner Selections and the Botter winery, set up to make affordable, pure Nero d'Avola from rural Sicily. The grapes come from vineyards near Trapani in western Sicily, facing west and southwest at about 350 metres on calcareous clay. Even the label pulls its weight: it draws on Sicily's architectural traditions, in colours meant to suggest the island's bright sunlight and burnished earth.
