Its Brunello vines grow at 290 meters on limestone clay and sand, facing west–north-west, in a cooler corner of Montalcino with sharp swings between day and night temperatures. The Squarcia family still owns the castle, but the vineyards are a recent chapter: they were planted in 1995. Today young Tommaso Squarcia runs the wines with Sangiovese specialist Maurizio Castelli. Their approach is firmly traditional: 100% Sangiovese Grosso from vineyards farmed on organic principles, native yeasts, longer-than-usual skin maceration and aging in large Slavonian oak.
