Pasquale Cenatiempo calls what he does viticoltura eroica — heroic viticulture — and he means it literally: fourteen tiny terraced vineyards above the Gulf of Naples, farmed organically with biodynamic practice, where nothing can be mechanized and everything happens by hand. This bottling is 100% Forastera from the commune of Lacco Ameno, grown on west-facing terraces trained in the traditional Ischian spalliera system, fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged there too — no skin contact, no oak, nothing between you and the volcano. Forastera is naturally high in acid and low in alcohol, which makes this one of the more useful whites you can own in warm weather.
