Château Bernadotte is a little Haut-Medoc gem that proves great value can be found in Bordeaux – if you know where to look.

The vineyards lie just outside of Pauillac, not far from those of Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Here the soils are a mix of gravel, clay and sand. Bernadotte certainly has a Pauillac-esque quality to it: flavors of rich red cherry and spicy tobacco wrapped in velveteen tannins. But unlike top Pauillac wines (like Lafite or Latour), Bernadotte doesn't need decades before it's ready to drink.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 90
"The 2016 Bernadotte has a fresh, minty, Pauillac-like bouquet that is well defined and vivacious. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, brittle tannin matched with a fine bead of acidity. This feels fresh and focused, with a classic graphite-tinged finish that feels classy. Excellent. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux." -Vinous

Robert Parker

"The 2016 La Bernadotte has a clean and precise bouquet with cigar smoke infused blackcurrant and bilberry fruit. The oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied and a little too oaky on the entry, however, there is satisfying depth to this Haut-Medoc and I appreciate the savory finish." -Neal Martin

Wine Spectator

WS 88
"Bright, with high-pitched raspberry and bitter cherry coulis notes, lined with savory and wet stone accents. Brisk-edged finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot."

"This estate, with its historic connections with the Swedish royal family, is now performing well. This latest vintage, with its rich tannins and dense flavors, has concentration as well as attractive black-fruit lusciousness."
