Under the late Eric Albada Jelgersma's careful stewardship, the estate (a 5th Growth in the 1855 Classification) consistently turned out wines of refinement at well below classified-growth pricing. Thirteen years on, the 2012 is fully in its sweet spot: cassis softened to red-currant, violet, pencil shavings, a touch of warm earth. Tannins fully resolved, acidity bright, finish long and Margaux-perfumed.
