Chateau Maillet is a couple of hectares on gravel, clay and sand farmed by Mickael Moze Berthon, the seventh generation of a family that has held vineyards here since 1820, and since 2014 they have worked with consultant Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus following a full renovation of the cellar. The vineyard is 95% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc, and the barrel-only regime, including malolactic fermentation in wood, is what gives the wine its unusually round texture and silky finish. 2015 was one of the great modern Right Bank vintages, warm and even, and this bottle now has a decade of bottle age doing its work.
