Chateau Saint-Pierre traces its origins to 1693, and when Henri Martin bought it in 1982 he painstakingly reassembled a property that had been split between two daughters in the nineteenth century, restoring its original footprint; the Martin family still runs it, now under Jean-Louis Triaud. The seventeen hectares of gravel, sand and clay are densely planted at 10,000 vines per hectare, with many vines close to fifty years old, and the blend leans hard on Cabernet Sauvignon at around 75% with Merlot and Cabernet Franc filling out the rest before sixteen months in French oak. The 2019 season was hot and dry but never lost its acidity, giving Saint-Julien wines that combine ripe, deep fruit with silky, well-coated tannins and real lift.
