Ciacci Piccolomini, Brunello di Montalcino 'Pianrosso', 2016

This wine was complex, layered with savory tomato, oregano, violets and red cherries. The wine finished with a beautiful savory character that lingered on the palate. It’s a wine that would pair beautifully with Bistecca alla Fiorentina or a pasta al pomodoro.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 98
"The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso is a single-vineyard expression that draws its fruit from an 11.7-hectare parcel with moderately thick galestro soils with ancient marine material. This special site, awash under the brilliant light of a big, open sky, does indeed deliver a more pronounced mineral signature, with wild berry, rose and rosemary essence. This is a beautiful wine, taut and silky, with elegant tannins that will endure ambitious bottle aging." -Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

WS 94
"Cherry, iron, sanguine and black tea flavors highlight this sinewy red. Vibrant and solidly built, shows assertive tannins lining the finish. Has enough ripe fruit to offset the structure, and the aftertaste persists, with fruit, iron and underbrush accents."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 98
"Aromas of red berry, camphor and tobacco meld with rose in this fragrant, full-bodied red. The smooth palate is concentrated yet elegant, featuring raspberry jam, cherry marinated in spirits, licorice and coffee bean alongside a backbone of firm, velvety tannin's."

What importer Skurnik Wines has to say about this wine...

Named after the celebrated, eponymously named vineyard site. This single-vineyard bottling is what Ciacci’s outstanding reputation was built upon. Aged for three years in 20-62 hl Slavonian oak barrels followed one year in bottle before release.
