Clos Lunelles sits on it, 8.5 hectares farmed by the Perse family of Chateau Pavie, and it is made with the same ambition: hand-picked and sorted, fermented with indigenous yeasts, five weeks on the skins, malolactic in barrel, then 18 to 24 months in oak with no fining or filtration. The blend is Merlot-led at around 80%, with the two Cabernets making up the rest. 2016 was one of Bordeaux's great recent vintages, a dry summer relieved by timely September rain, which gave wines with ripe fruit and unusually fine-grained tannins. Now a decade on, this is drinking beautifully while keeping plenty in reserve.
