Burghound 93 points "Fresh, pure and still remarkably youthful with earthy and still almost largely if not completely primary spicy red and black pinot fruit that complements the delicious, intense, velvety, concentrated and serious medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a mouth coating and extraordinarily complex finish that delivers outstanding length. The typical minerality of the Clos des Epeneaux is on parade in this vintage and adds to the underlying sense of elegance and finesse."

The jewel in the crown of Comte Armand is the 13 acre premier cru monopole vineyard Clos des Epéneaux vineyard of Pommard. The vineyard and other bottlings from Volnay and Auxey-Duresses are farmed biodynamically. The wines are assertive and incredibly ageworthy.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"I have never been an enormous fan of this period for Comte Armand. The 1991 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru, served from ex-domaine magnum, has a rather ham-fisted, medicinal bouquet that lacks the essence of Pinot Noir. The palate is fully mature yet, like the 2005 tasted a few weeks later, rather charmless, with a brettanomyces-tinged finish. Drink soon. Tasted at a private dinner in London." -Vinous

Robert Parker

"The 1991 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux has a funky, rather spirituous bouquet with juniper berries and eau de vie, quite medicinal in style. The palate seems to translate the winemaking more than the vineyard with strong mulberry and leather notes infused with a scent of horse stables overdue cleaning out! Examining the wine over two hours, it declined in the glass, and given that this came from an ex-cellar magnum, I suggest drinking in the near future. It is past its best."

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
