Domaine Faury, Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes, 2018

Available for Same Day Delivery (or Pickup) in Manhattan.

Faury’s Vieilles Vignes St. Joseph has been a personal favorite since for as long as we can remember. Fruit from two plantings in a high altitude, north-facing, granite-soiled vineyard including ancient Serine plantings from the '30s.

Domaine Faury

Faury has become one of our customers’ favorite Northern Rhone growers. In the words of Kermit Lynch, Faury’s importer, the wines have a “remarkable rustic elegance.” Kermit’s paradoxical compliment really cuts to the heart of things at this traditional producer.

They ferment in concrete with wild yeast. They aren’t afraid to use some stems. They punch the cap down with bare feet, super-old-school, to extract the grapes’ goodness as gently – and with as much control – as possible. These traditional practices make for unforced, naturally elegant wines. But they never buff the Northern Rhone edges off.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"Deep, shimmering violet. Heady aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, incense, violet and black pepper show excellent clarity and minerally lift. Sappy, sweet and energetic in style, showing real intensity and sharp delineation to the spice-laced blackberry, cherry liqueur, floral pastille and bitter chocolate flavors. Smooth and seamless in texture, showing impressive clarity and spicy thrust on the gently tannic finish, which echoes the cherry and floral notes. This wine, which is sourced from an old (mostly 1937), Serine-planted vineyard in Chavanay, always over-delivers for its appellation. Made with 60% whole clusters." -Josh Raynolds
