This bottle is Huet's dry take on Le Mont. Vouvray has no official grand crus, but people who know the region well put this slope in that company. Gaston Huet bought it in 1957, nearly three decades after founding the domaine. It's 8 hectares on Vouvray's Première Côte, with less clay and more stone than the estate's original Le Haut-Lieu, and the green-tinged clay is shot through with mica and silica. Le Mont tends to give the most linear, precise wine in the Huet lineup. Huet decides every year whether each vineyard becomes Sec, Demi-Sec or sweet Moelleux, so a dry Le Mont is a deliberate choice to let the site speak plainly. The vines have been farmed biodynamically since 1990 (certified since 1993), which puts Huet among the earliest adopters. Today Benjamin Joliveau leads the team for owners Sarah and Hugo Hwang. He's a Vouvray native who spent a decade working alongside longtime winemaker Jean-Bernard Berthomé.
