Domaine Leflaive

Over the past couple of decades Domaine Leflaive has re-established itself as probably the most important address for winemaking in the world famous village of Puligny-Montrachet. They accomplished this through a singular attention to growing and making the very best Chardonnay possible.

Indeed, Domaine Leflaive grows only Chardonnay and nothing else. The entire estate has been converted to biodynamic farming. The winemaking is extremely precise, gentle, and driven by a passion to showcase how this extremely popular grape can perfectly capture the subtle nuances of terroir.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 91-93 June 2019
"There is a whiff of the exotic to the spicy, acacia blossom, white peach and dried apricot-infused aromas. There is both better volume and mid-palate density to the caressing but punchy medium-bodied flavors that exude a hint of minerality on the clean, very dry and lingering finish where a hint of wood emerges. This is already good and is potentially excellent. " -Allen Meadows

"The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Récolte du Domaine) is showing superbly, wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet of white flowers, fresh peach, grapefruit zest, warm bread and toasted nuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with an enveloping attack that segues into a tight-knit core, before concluding with a long, intense finish. This is emphatically a young Folatières, and a decade of bottle age will be rewarded with additional complexity and textural plenitude, even if the outgoing style of vintage means that it could be enjoyed sooner. It derives from vineyards that were formerly farmed and vinified by Domaine Leflaive." -William Kelley

" There are two different bottlings of Folatières at Olivier Leflaive, the slightly better one coming from the domaine's own grapes. This is a very perfumed Puligny premier cru, with appealing white flowers and thatch on the nose followed on the palate by subtle 30% new wood, some pastry spices, and chalky minerality on the finish. " -Tim Atkin

"Ripe peach and citronella flavors mingle with smoky vanilla, butterscotch and pastry notes in this big, muscular white. All the elements are still a little disparate on the finish, but this should come together in a year or so."

"Farmed biodynamically (as are all the vineyards owned by this producer), two parcels within the premier cru provided grapes for this wine. Superbly structured, it combines yellow and white-fruit flavors with generous spice, toast and minerality. The result is a wine that will age extremely well." -RV
