Domaine Georges Roumier, Musigny, 2017

The incredibly rare Musigny from Roumier. Comes in OWC. One of the original domaines to begin bottling themselves (back in the 1940s), Roumier quickly moved into the very top tier of Burgundy producers. Specialists in Chambolle Musigny, they produce some of the most achingly pure and elegant wines from anywhere, and consequently the demand for their small production is enormous. Roumier's wines are strictly allocated, and we only occasionally acquire sufficient quantities to post online, so be sure to grab bottles when you see them!

Professional Reviews

"Reduction and soft wood nuances are all that can be discerned today. Much more interesting are the super-sleek, velvety and powerful mineral-driven imposingly-scaled flavors that despite the opulent richness retain lovely delineation on the almost painfully intense and hugely long finish. The supporting tannins are the ripest in the range though they make it indisputably clear that this is destined for a very long life, indeed 25 to 30 years would not surprise me yet this is not particularly austere though it may evolve in that direction once it's bottled. One of the crown jewels of the 2017 vintage." -Allen Meadow

"The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru comprises double the amount of the 2016 (hoorah!), which is still just one-and-a-half barrels (boo!) It has an exquisite bouquet of brambly black fruit, woodland scents, hints of black truffle and crushed flowers that seem to bloom with time. The palate is medium-bodied with lucid red fruit on the entry, delivering energy and superb depth, and almost sorbet-fresh toward the very persistent finish. A sublime Musigny." -Neal Martin

"There are one and a half barrels of the 2017 Musigny Grand Cru, a superb but reserved wine that unwinds to reveal aromas of rose petal, cherries, raspberries, sweet spices, orange rind and espresso roast. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and complete, with a layered, multidimensional core, lively acids and a long, resonant finish. Like the Bonnes-Mares, this looks to be one of the wines of the vintage, though it's even less outgoing at this early stage." -William Kelley
