She was born in Bremen to two doctors, worked teenage summers at wineries in South Africa and Australia, then learned her trade at J.B. Becker and with Johannes Leitz, buying her first vines in 2006 while still working for Leitz. Today her estate is a patchwork of sites across the Rheingau, farmed organically and worked by hand, and her estate Riesling draws on several of them, with soils running from sandy loess and loam to clay, quartzite and slate. Her cellar rules are simple: native-yeast fermentations in stainless steel, alcohol kept in check, and keeping the acidity above everything else. She isn't chasing a \"natural wine\" label (the point is the purity of the vineyards).
