{"product_id":"eyrie-pinot-noir-the-eyrie-dundee-hills-2014","title":"Eyrie, Pinot Noir Reserve Original Vines, 2014","description":"This is Pinot Noir from the first Pinot Noir vines planted in the Willamette Valley: the Original Vines at The Eyrie Vineyard, where David and Diana Lett planted the first wine grapes in the Dundee Hills from cuttings David brought to Oregon in 1965. He arrived at 25 with \"3,000 grape cuttings and a theory,\" that stylistically pure Pinot Noir could be grown well outside Burgundy. He was right: his 1975 Pinot Noir became the first American Pinot to hold its own against great Burgundies, in Paris in 1979. The site is small, 17 acres on a hillside between 260 and 410 feet. It's named for the red-tailed hawks whose nest (an eyrie) is still there every year. Son Jason Lett took over as winemaker in 2005, kept production small, switched to native-yeast fermentation and farms the estate certified organic. Eyrie also holds some older wines back for later release and checks them with a 21-step quality process. This Reserve is from 2014, so it already has a decade-plus of age on it. A chance to taste Oregon's founding vineyard with real bottle age doesn't come along often, and this is it.","brand":"Polaner [POL]","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46504294187065,"sku":"NYC-W-POL-`OEV105`-091426-3","price":149.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0125\/1518\/0601\/files\/IMG-4862.jpg?v=1791236812","url":"https:\/\/nyc.flatiron-wines.com\/products\/eyrie-pinot-noir-the-eyrie-dundee-hills-2014","provider":"Flatiron Wines \u0026 Spirits NYC","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
