The Southern Rhône is defined by Châteauneuf-du-Pape, one of the most important blended wines of all time. The Northern Rhône is virtually synonymous with Syrah, whether from Hermitage, Cornas, or Côte-Rôtie. But quite simply, the Rhône has so much more to offer than these monoliths.

Join us on Monday, October 19th from 6pm to 7:30 for a walkaround tasting celebrating some of the Rhône's most unique and distinct wines. You'll have the opportunity to meet and taste with five talented winemakers represented by one of the most important importers working today, Neal Rosenthal.

Winemakers in attendance will be: Xavier Gerard of Côte-Rôtie, Domaine Lionnet of Cornas, Domaine de la Manarine and Bois de Boursan of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin of Baumes-de-Venise. More information about the winemakers can be found below.

Tickets are $25 and attendees will receive a $10 gift card that can be used on any purchase, in-store or online. When she and Ludovic Izerable married in 2003, Ludovic joined the domaine and pushed its traditional practice toward organic and, later, certified biodynamic farming.

Their Cornas is rooted in a mosaic of steep granite sites, including Mazards, Chaillot, Pied la Vigne, Combe and Chataîgnier. Old-vine Syrah is worked with restraint: whole-cluster fermentation, spontaneous yeasts, concrete maceration, long élevage in neutral demi-muids and older barrels, then bottling without fining or filtration. The flagship Terre Brûlée gathers those sites into a complete portrait of Cornas; Chaillot and Pur Granit isolate two distinct expressions. The domaine also makes Saint-Joseph and a small group of Vin de France bottlings with the same vivid, uncompromising sensibility.

Bois de Boursan
Jean-Paul Versino leads the ten-hectare domaine founded in 1955 by his father, Jean. Its vineyards lie entirely within Châteauneuf-du-Pape, spread among numerous parcels and planted to the full range of traditional appellation varieties.

Versino’s approach is deliberately classical. The vineyards are farmed organically; red grapes are fermented without destemming, macerated for about three weeks, and raised for roughly eighteen months in traditional foudres and older barrels before being bottled unfiltered. The Tradition cuvée is the estate’s central expression: Grenache-led, savory and structured. In suitable years, Cuvée des Félix comes from a stricter selection of low-yielding, well-exposed vines and gives a more reserved, cellar-worthy reading of the same terroir.

Domaine la Manarine
Gilles Gasq created Domaine La Manarine in 2001 after years working alongside Paul Jeune at Domaine de Monpertuis in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The winery and most of its vineyards sit around Travaillan on the Plan de Dieu, northeast of Orange.

The plateau’s deep layer of hard limestone galets is especially suited to Grenache, which anchors the estate. Gasq’s holdings also include Syrah, Carignan and white varieties such as Clairette and Bourboulenc; since 2015, two parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape have extended the range. La Manarine’s wines favor clarity over polish: indigenous fermentations, restrained extraction and élevage mainly in cement or tank, with wood used selectively. The result is a suite of Southern Rhône wines that preserves freshness, aromatic lift and a strong sense of place.

Domaine la Ferme Saint-Martin
Thomas Jullien is the third generation at this family estate in Suzette, high in the Dentelles de Montmirail. His grandparents Aimé and Yvonne established the farm in the 1950s; his father, Guy, moved the vineyards toward organic farming, certified in 1998. After apprenticeships in France and abroad, Thomas returned in 2005 and assumed responsibility for the cellar in 2006.

Sophie Jullien joined the estate in 2020, developing its hospitality and wine-tourism work. Together they farm elevated parcels across Beaumes-de-Venise, Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône. Thomas works gently in the cellar, avoiding synthetic inputs and favoring spontaneous fermentations, modest extraction, limited oak and little or no added sulfur depending on the cuvée. The wines translate the estate’s varied marl, limestone and clay soils into Rhône reds and whites marked by freshness and precision.

Xavier Gérard
Xavier Gérard assumed full control of his family’s steeply terraced holdings with the 2013 vintage, after years learning at home and gaining experience at other estates. Based in Condrieu, he works across two emblematic Northern Rhône appellations: Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu.

His Côte-Rôtie draws on parcels including Mollard, Font-Jean, Viallière and La Landonne. In the cellar, Gérard favors spontaneous fermentations, sensitive use of whole clusters and élevage largely in older barrels, allowing Syrah’s peppery, mineral detail to remain at the center of the wine. With Viognier, he pursues freshness and precision rather than sheer weight. His Condrieu range includes the site- specific Côte Châtillon, L’Arbuel and Marmouzin bottlings, each offering a distinct view of the appellation’s granite slopes.
