The number ONE response I get from customers when I recommend a Riesling is "those are too sweet, I don't like them". The perception of sugar in wine is the most misunderstood aspect of Riesling (and wine in general). No other variety is capable of such precise terroir expression across such a magnitude of styles, and it is Riesling's balance of sugar accumulation and acidity retention which allow that to happen. Don't let a bad bottle of Blue Nun in high school keep you away from, arguably, the world's greatest white grape.

Classes are on EITHER Friday, February 4th from 7-8:30pm OR Saturday, February 5th from 4-5:30 pm. Please add which class to you want to the notes field at check out.

There are three main goals for all of our classes:

1. Help you figure out what your likes and dislikes are.
2. Demonstrate some key reasons for the differences in the flavors and textures in wine.
3. Communicate what you want with the wine professionals who are there to help.

We accomplish this by picking wines we love that demonstrate, elucidate and enlighten. Then we get together on Zoom, look at maps, and explore topics through the wines in our glass.

How It Works
This is wine school via the internet! We send you bottles of wine with course materials, and then we open them all together over zoom. Clara Dalzell, GM of Flatiron Wines and a non-certified German Wine Lover, will be hosting this 2-part course. We will talk, taste and explore the terroir and small producers of this revered country. Then come away knowing another thing or two about the greatness that nature can offer.

All class-packs feature a shipment of four wines, plus an interactive Zoom video sessions (90 min each). There will be plenty of graphics, maps, and pretty pictures, all designed to take you behind the music, and make each bottle relevant.

To help ensure you receive your wine in time for the first session, we need your NY, NJ & CT class-pack orders three days before your desired session. Please note, we will do our best to expedite orders placed after specified cut-off dates or out of the Tri-State region but we cannot guarantee deliveries. For more information email Clara directly: clara.dalzell@flatiron-wines.com.

If you have more questions, please email clara@flatiron-wines.com directly. Please note wines pictured with product may not be the exact wines featured in the class.

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
