Fontodi

There are winds of change blowing in Chianti Classico: rather than masking the vibrancy and purity of Sangiovese with heavy French oak (or worse, with the addition of French varietals), many winemakers have chosen to wholly embrace this noble grape. Few estates can claim responsibility for this renaissance more than Fontodi, a bastion of organic farming and a champion of Sangiovese’s role as the grape of Chianti.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 96
"The 2004 Flaccianello della Pieve is super elegant, polished and impeccably refined, just as it always has been. At the same time, it is one of the bigger 2004s from Tuscany readers will come across. Dark red berries, flowers, spices and menthol are layered into the finish. Today the aromatics aren’t fully developed, but that should not be an issue in another few years. There is plenty of underlying structure to support many years of fine drinking. The quality of the tannins is particularly fine, especially next to the other great Flaccianellos."

"Gorgeous aromas of blackberry, light toasty oak, cream and flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate, with supersilky tannins and a long, long finish. Wonderful. Sangiovese." -James Suckling
