This one comes from the steepest, most south-facing stretch of Brauneberg's slate hillside, and it has had more than two decades in bottle. The Juffer-Sonnenuhr (\"sundial\") is the choicest centre of the slope, and in 1925 the village was renamed Brauneberg, \"brown mountain,\" after the colour of its slate. Haag makes its Beerenauslese here only from the best fully botrytized fruit, picked by hand, carefully sorted and pressed as gently as possible. Acid backbone is what lets sweet Mosel Riesling go the distance. This 2001 dates from the Wilhelm Haag years, before his son Oliver took over in 2005. A note on condition: the bottle shows signs of old seepage and the cork is pushing out.
