Les Chatelots runs along the mid-slope directly beneath the village of Chambolle, wedged between Les Feusselottes and Les Gruenchers and sitting above Aux Combottes; Barthod farms a quarter hectare here, and at around twenty-five years the vines are among the youngest of her cru holdings, which shows in how openly the wine drinks. There is a distinct earthiness under the red fruit and enough structural backbone to keep it from being merely pretty. Everything in the cellar is identical to her other crus, with partial destemming, native yeasts and roughly twenty months in barrel using a modest share of new wood, because the entire point of bottling eleven premier crus off 5.86 hectares is to let the parcels differ on their own. The fresh, floral, unexpectedly concentrated 2023 reds suit this site well.
