Those who know this wine (and its unusual barrel-shaped bottle) love it. On paper, it sounds bizarre: a semi-sparkling, semi-dry orange wine made from two obscure grapes (97% Debina and 3% Vlahiko). But it’s truly delicious, and a totally unique experience. Earthy, with flavors of hazelnut, apricot, citrus oil and spices like cinnamon and ginger. Thomas’ father didn’t know how the village elders made their wine when he was a kid, but he wanted to recreate it. Despite years of effort neither father nor son succeeded until SO2 was omitted. The taste finally matched Lefteris’ strong sense memory.
