Jeff Vejr founded Golden Cluster in 2013 to chase exactly this kind of thing: own-rooted, dry-farmed old vines, forgotten clones and varieties nobody in Oregon plants anymore, a deliberate step outside the state's Pinot-and-Chardonnay mainstream. This is not a Bordeaux-style Sémillon and does not try to be. Vejr works with ambient yeast, a brief spell on the skins, neutral barrels, and bottles unfined and unfiltered, which leaves a white with unusual texture and grip and a savory, almost herbal cast alongside the citrus. Made in tiny quantities.
