The Reflets de Riviere is a blend of 60% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay with 60% coming from a perpetual reserve started in 1980. This is a wine for those who enjoy aged Champagnes with a warm, toasty-brioche center, deep, concentrated aged mushroom, dried fruit, and very pretty lemon and mineral filigreed edges. A crazy value.

They are situated in Damery in the Vallée de la Marne, just to the west of Cumieres in La Grande Vallée. Vines average 35 years old with some planted in 1930 and farming is HVE3, the strictest sustainable certification in France and moving towards their organic certification.

Flatiron NY was the first retailer in New York to carry the Goutorbe-Bouillot Champagnes, and we’ve been looking forward to share them with our Champagne aficionados. But while new to us, they have hundreds of years of experience under their belts, starting in 1775. In 1911 the family switched from selling wine to the houses to bottling under their own Grower label.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 90
"Disgorged after 36 months on the lees and with eight grams per liter dosage, the latest release of the NV Brut Reflets de Rivière offers up attractive aromas of dried white flowers, toasted nuts, fresh peach and orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and expressive, it's lively and charming, complemented by a delicate low-pressure mousse. This Pinot Meunier-dominated blend is drawn from a solera established in 1980." -Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

WS 91
"A well-cut, chalky Champagne, offering flavors of kumquat, white cherry and almond biscotti. The firm edges are nicely swathed and balanced by the fine mousse, and a streak of salinity drives the finish."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
