Ambassador James Zellerbach planted here in 1953 with a genuinely audacious goal, to answer white Burgundy on Sonoma slopes, and the property still holds the oldest continuously producing Chardonnay vines in the Western Hemisphere. Sebella comes from the younger sections of the Day and Zellerbach blocks in the Moon Mountain District, vines averaging around 17 years, on volcanic soils between roughly 415 and 600 feet. It's fermented with native yeast in stainless steel and blocked from malolactic to keep the acidity taut, then rested six months in neutral French oak, so there's no butter and no toast, just citrus and stone. The vineyards are certified organic.
