Professional Reviews

BH 92
"A mix of high-toned essence of red berries with floral and earth scents gives way to sleek and delicious but not especially dense flavors possess an almost delicate mouthfeel, all wrapped in a vibrant and sneaky long finish despite the presence of a slight dryness that's not enough to really compromise the balance."

Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru is marked by higher acidity than other Premier Crus. It has a powerful bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and scorched earth aromas, developing floral scents with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, the 30% whole bunch neatly integrated. The harmonious, beautifully poised finish lingers long in the mouth. Excellent." -Vinous

"The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots wafts from the glass with aromas of plums, cinnamon, peonies, orange rind and raw cocoa. Medium-bodied, fine-boned and lively, it's bright and nicely concentrated, with youthfully chalky tannins and a saline finish. As usual, this is one of the more tightly wound premiers crus in the range, with an elegant, rather ethereal profile, and it will reward bottle age." -Robert Parker

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The Ligniers own just under half a hectare of vines planted in 1968 in this great premier cru, which sits just above Clos-Saint-Denis on the slope. “Les Chaffots” is the muscular, brooding counterpart to the more elegant “La Riotte” above, offering an immensity of structure and ruggedness of fruit that allows the wine to age effortlessly for decades. It is even more profoundly mineral-driven than “La Riotte,” with a deeper register to its spicy, meaty aromas, and an almost shocking intensity and concentration on the palate. This is rich and broad, but still amazingly graceful—beautifully “old-school” in its demeanor.

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
